The South Carolina capital’s downtown streets are a hub of eclectic eateries, chic bars, and cultural institutions that crackle with character. The brief was to illustrate an engaging illustrated map for a regular magazine feature for the winter issues of Southbound Magazine (USA). The feature highlights travel destinations in the Southern American states. The illustration required a mix of iconic motifs based on the local attractions, foodie locations and places of note all along main street Columbia, SC.
For the illustration I first provided small thumbnail sketches of each of the suggested icons provided for the article. I then created a rough map layout plan including lettering style sketches. After client approval, I produced a full colour illustration to accompany the travel article. See below illustration and article in context celebrating .
